2016 is finally over and it’s time to look ahead for 2017! While the usual goals of eating healthier, being more active, losing weight, or building a business are great goals, this year I’m trying something a little different.
This blog so far has been all about my journey to simplify, declutter, and discover minimalism. My friend Amy (from AmyFillinger.com) and I are going to be taking on the 30-Day Minimalism Game (#minsgame) to start off the new year with less stuff!
30-Day Minimalism Game Rules
The basic idea is that you must get rid of one item each day, plus the number of items you gave away the previous day. So one item on day one, two items day two, fifteen on the 15th and so on. This means the game starts out pretty easy but gets progressively more challenging as the month goes by! By the end of the month, over 500 items are gone from the house and there’s that much more breathing space. THAT is the kind of simplicity I’m looking to start this year with!
We’ll be cataloging each day on our Instagram accounts so feel free to follow me @andrea.maniaci.hart and Amy @amyfillinger. I’ll post a weekly update on the blog with all of the images together along with my item count.
Some Small Changes
There will likely be days, especially early on, where we don’t stick to the exact item count but will never go below the minimum. I personally tend to declutter in binges, not one or five items at a time. Amy is the same way. For instance, does anyone clean out their pantry a couple of items at a time? I’m getting rid of as much as I can!
Happy New Year, everyone!
